Last night was the end of what has proved to be a very successful launch of the TURBO Action Polo Event in Durban. This intention of this Tournament was to also kick start to the upcoming KZN Club Polo season and get the passion for polo back into Durban. By all accounts these objectives were achieved. The event has seen numerous player, that have not played for many years, back in the pool and competing. There is also no doubting the social success of the event, with the Clifton bar being packed every Thursday and at times until rather early hours of Friday morning.
The Clifton Aquatics Centre saw some real action last night as things got serious with the TURBO Cup and Plate Semi-Finals being decide and taking place.
Both Cup Semi-Finals were great games with the final score in both matches ending 6-5.
Thursday sees the final round robin games for the 2014 Turbo Action Polo Tournament - Durban. The final log standings after these games will determine the Semi Final Fixtures for the Turbo Cup and the Turbo Plate. There were a few big results last week that changed the log quite dramatically. It is all to play for on Thursday as 4 teams are still in contention to secure 4th spot on the final log.
Sorry for the delay in publishing the results from last week.
A HUGE thank you to everyone for braving the weather last week and fulfilling the fixtures. The results from last week saw some big changes to the log standings. Tomorrow sees the last round of round robin games and the SEMI FINALS for both the Cup and the Plate sections. There are currently 4 Teams that can still qualify for the last spot in the Cup Semi Final competition - ALL TO PLAY FOR
Polo, beer, boerie roll, vibe - the perfect Thursday evening in Durban
Just a reminder of last weeks top goal scorer - DONT FORGET YOUR FREE BEER:
GOB Master #6 Scottie Mantel (8 goals)
(a 5m penalty during the power play moved Scott ahead of Tim Potgieter by 1 goal)
Last night saw some fiercely contested and close encounters, just showing how much passion we have for this great game - Water Polo.
One that note, the success of this tournament lies on the actions, reactions of you - the players. It only takes a few individuals to turn something positive into a negative. In simple english - Don't tune the ref - get him to buy you a cold beer after the game rather!
Full Pub, crowd in the stands, 8 games of polo and a vibe - brief description of the opening night to the Durban edition of the TURBO Action Polo Tournament. Although the Tournament has been going in Cape Town for 3 years now, this is the 1st CLUB edition of the event.
